New Parent and Family Orientation

New Parent and Family Orientation

Rutgers-New Brunswick’s New Parent and Family Orientation is designed to help parents and family members support their students as they transition into college life. We are partners in your student’s success. New Parent and Family Orientation provides you with valuable insights into academic expectations, campus resources, student support services, and ways you can stay engaged in their student’s journey at Rutgers.

Why Parents Should Attend:

  • Understanding Rutgers’ Resources – Learn about academic advising, financial aid, student wellness services, and campus safety to help your student navigate their college experience successfully.
  • Connecting with Staff & Faculty – Gain firsthand knowledge from university professionals about Rutgers' policies and student support systems.
  • Supporting Student Success – Get practical tips on how to guide and encourage your student while fostering their independence.
  • Partnering with Rutgers – As a family member, you play a vital role in your student’s education. Orientation helps you understand how to collaborate with Rutgers to ensure their academic and personal growth.
  • Networking with Other Families – Meet fellow Rutgers parents and families to build a support network and share experiences.
  • Getting Your Questions Answered – Ask questions about housing, dining, transportation, and student life directly with Rutgers representatives.

Attending New Parent and Family Orientation strengthens the partnership between Rutgers and families, ensuring students receive the support they need to thrive in their new college environment.

Note: New Parent and Family Orientation is separate from New Student Orientation. You do not have to attend the same day as your student’s orientation as these are separate programs. For questions about New Student Orientation, your student should email orientation@echo.rutgers.edu.
